Originally from Bethel, Ohio, tenor Eric Riedel is currently pursuing his Master of Music degree in Voice at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, studying under Daniel Weeks. He earned his Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance from Miami University, where he performed several principal roles with Miami Opera Theater. Most notably, Riedel was praised for his “lovely timbre and obvious commitment” in the title role of Gregory Spears’ Paul’s Case — a production that went on to win first place at the National Opera Association’s Opera Production Competition. Other roles include Monsieur Vogelsang in Mozart’s The Impresario, Fabrizio Naccarelli in Guettel’s The Light in the Piazza and Neos in the world premiere of John Massaro’s The Seven Sisters.
Equally at home in oratorio, Riedel has appeared as the tenor soloist in Handel’s Messiah and L’Allegro, il Penseroso ed il Moderato and Bach’s Cantata No. 182, and as Matt in Craig Hella Johnson’s Considering Matthew Shepard. He has also garnered success in competitions, winning the 2023 Miami University Concerto Competition, placing second in the 2024 Miami Undergraduate Artist Competition and capturing first place for four consecutive years in the Ohio National Association of Teachers of Singing Competition. In 2022, Riedel was awarded the NATS Jon Vickers Award for Overall Best Performance in the Great Lakes Regional Competition. That same summer, he received a scholarship to study in the Lieder program at the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria, where he performed in several song recitals and performed in a masterclass with renowned baritone Bo Skovhus.
